A superb cast and great action sequences. Might seem a little stilted by today's standards, but that's because, unlike today, filmakers assumed audiences would be patient enough to follow the characters' emotional development.
Heston at his best.

Although this powerful 1965 Franklin Schaffner-directed romance has abundant, realistically performed fighting scenes, the film is principally a love story, telling the story of a Norman lord, Chrysagon de la Crue.
When you have the DVD, you can appreciate numerous fine points about the directing, acting, script, combat and costuming which, in my opinion, made this one of the best, if not the finest, movie of its decade. I think it was Hestons greatest performance.
