J.J. Abrams Jeffrey Jacob Abrams (born June 27, 1966), better known as J. J. Abrams, is an American film and television producer, screenwriter, director, actor, and composer. He wrote and produced feature films before co-creating the television series Felicity (1998–2002). He also created Alias (2001–2006) and co-created Lost (2004–2010), Fringe (2008–present), and Undercovers (2010). Abrams directed the films Mission: Impossible III (2006) and Star Trek (2009), and produced the film Cloverfield (2008).

ValVincent I have not seen the original series, the spin-offs, nor the feature films. But after seeing J.J. Abrams vision of the Star Trek "origin" story, I am now a fan. 2009's Star Trek is an absolutely entertaining space adventure. wolfnotes The movie hooks you in with a decent opening, but the script goes nowhere interesting after that, the bad guys are 2-dimensional thugs, and the action is typical blockbuster pap. Stain As we're all film geeks here, I'm sure I don't have to explain the limitations a movie like this will inevitably suffer. Within those limitations, however, this is really the best Trek reboot movie for which we could reasonably ask. The action sequences are fresh, well-staged, and fit the story, the humor is funny, and there's loads of clever touches (e.g.. how McCoy gets his nickname) that reveal a script that does a fine job of reinventing all these characters emtilt The writing, cinematography, and direction are terrible. That said, I still, somehow, had some fun watching it. At least it doesn't take itself too seriously. But why is that romance in there? It's underdeveloped and does absolutely nothing for the film. Nonetheless, it's the only thing in the Star Trek franchise that I can stomach at all.
