The Director

Atom Egoyan
Atom Egoyan, OC (born July 19, 1960) is a critically acclaimed Armenian-Canadian independent film maker. His work often explores themes of alienation and isolation, featuring characters whose interactions are mediated through technology, bureaucracy or other power structures. Egoyan's films often follow non-linear plot-structures, in which events are placed out of sequence in order to elicit specific emotional reactions from the audience by withholding key information.
In 2008 he received the Dan David Prize for "Creative Rendering of the Past".

I think the director knows his film is inadequate and he tries to market it with a sensational lesbian sex scene, involves an archaic Hollywood star. Well, as director concerned, this should be enough to make his regular customers lined up. Of course, most of the critics (not Roger Ebert, as you expected) did not liked this dull "thriller", so I don't think Atom Egoyan was able to reach his desire: feeding his ego.

A nude Amanda Seyfried does not lend this lackluster affair nearly as much credibility as it supposes. The plot is boring, bordering on unimaginative, and the characters are shallow and uninteresting. The film has some nice, albeit a little too thoroughly blurred, imagery, but it isn't used to display anything worth following. Neeson was particularly disappointing as his character lacked the edge or focus necessary to craft one of the compelling persons he normally delivers.
