Storyline
This is the story of three gentle persons: Paul Rivers (Penn) an ailing mathematician lovelessly married to an English emigré (Gainsbourg), Christina Peck, an upper-middle-class suburban housewife, happily married and mother of two little girls, and Jack Jordan (Del Toro), an ex-convict who has found in his Christian faith the strength to raise a family. They will be brought together by a terrible accident that will change their lives. By the final frame, none of them will be the same as they will learn harsh truths about love, faith, courage, desire and guilt, and how chance can change our worlds irretrievably, forever. |

This movie reminds me a lot of Memento (2000), but with an unexpected turn. From the beginning of the movie, you will see glimpses of the past and future while following the story..

Although this is an intriguing way of discovering the very complicated story behind the movie, it also means that you won't understand anything until you'll get to the middle of the movie.
Sean Penn (Paul Rivers), Naomi Watts (Cristina Peck) and Danny Huston (Michael) have wonderfully crafted roles that they play with mastery.
Some of you may want to stop watching at one point, thinking you'll never understand what this movie is all about.. but trust me when I say you will.. and the ending is well worth the wait.

It's not easy to construct a movie like this, and I really respect how well he did it. In a movie like Memento, it does seem very gimmicky, but here it didn't bother me. I wasn't wrapped up in trying to "figure it out," although that was part of the experience. I was more interested, more emotionally invested, in the characters and the choices they make.
