great stuff :-) any fan of dark 1984-/Brazil-type movies will love this.

(I believe parts of the audio were sampled in some early Theatre of Tragedy songs?)

This film is a masterful subversion of genre, deftly combining elements of film noir and science fiction. The steady erosion of the noir construct is thematically brilliant, and an intriguing comment on the progression of the individual, as represented by the protagonist. Stylistically, the film features spectacular visuals with design work that is both alien and familiar. No film is perfect, but parts of this experience are sublime.

Derekstar

IN WHAT WAY IS THIS A GOOD MOVIE? The climactic sequence consists of everybody getting superpowers and just standing there looking at each other, using the power of the mind to create awful special effects. The theatrical version spoils the big reveal in the first 60 seconds. The director`s cut is more mysterious, but boring because nothing makes any sense for the first hour or so. Furthermore, this contains some of the worst acting I've ever seen. Admit it, this movie is a train wreck.

Stain

Not bad but not serious or together enough for me to take it too seriously

Spunkie

Tough it has its plot flaws and wrong turns, Dark City is unique in its atmosphere. Gives a new meaning to neo-noir. If the movie had been able to stay away from matter of fact action sequences at the end and have the courage to take the "non-human look at humanity" route it would have been ground breaking. Kiefer, Jennifer, Proyas at their best.
