Storyline

Pinky is an awkward young teen who starts work at a spa in the CA. Desert. She becomes overly attached to fellow spa attendant, Millie when she becomes Millie's roommate. Mille is a lonely outcast who desperately tries to win attention with constant upbeat chatter. They hang out at a bar owned by a strange pregnant artist and her has-been cowboy husband. After each of 2 emotional crises, the three woman steal and trade each other's personalities until they settle into a new family unit that seems to give each woman what she was searching for.

The Director

Robert Altman
Robert Bernard Altman (February 20, 1925 – November 20, 2006) was an American film director and screenwriter known for making films that are highly naturalistic, but with a stylized perspective. Close to great. I didn't love it, but I really liked it. It plays a lot like a Bunuel film.

Spunkie

Other than the eerie psychedelic sequences Altman fails to deliver with a good premise and falls into the land of needlessly depressive. Spacek and Duvall was a clever match though.

KAH

An enigmatic and unsettling movie about social alienation. Altman's trademarks really come to their own right in this great film.
