The Director

Zack Snyder
Zachary Edward "Zack" Snyder (born March 1, 1966) is an American film director, screenwriter, and producer. After making his feature film debut with the 2004 remake Dawn of the Dead, he gained wide recognition with the 2007 box office hit 300, adapted from writer-artist Frank Miller's Dark Horse Comics miniseries of the same name, and later went on to direct the 2009 superhero film Watchmen, an adaptation of the comic book of the same name. He is the co-founder of Cruel and Unusual Films, a production company he established in 2004, alongside his wife Deborah Snyder and producing partner Wesley Coller. His first family film was the 2010 animated family adventure film Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, based on the first three books of the series by Kathryn Lasky. His most recent film is Sucker Punch, which he directed and co-wrote. He has also been hired by Warner Bros. to direct a re

The first time I watched this film I thought it was average at best. The second time I watched it I thought it was the work of genius. It just clicked and I totally got it, an amazing film truly epic, not read the comics so don't have to concern myself with whether it can compare to them or not. As a film it works and works well. It's the anti superhero film.

8.5. It's a good, solid, movie showing the potential of superheroes for social commentry.

I find the dystopia a bit less interesting than the one in DK2 (the comic) or in some of the SF work of, say, Norman Spinrad (of "Bug Jack Baron" fame) but interesting nonetheless.

One thing that bugged me was the question of whether these masked vigilantes had super-powers or not. And if yes, as they seem to, where do they come from? It'd help with the suspension of disbelief! Again!

I really enjoyed this movie, but I would only recommend it to fans of the graphic novel.

This is the best adaptation of a comic book out there, and Zach Snyder should get all the credit for making it work. Before he came along this was going to be a wildly different movie. At times the movie crosses a line, glorifying the costumed heroes via flashy fight scenes when they aught not to be, but this is my only complaint. Every other change made to the graphic novel is an improvement. Yes, an IMPROVEMENT on the greatest graphic novel of all time. This movie is wildly under rated.

An endearingly flawed adaption of a seminal graphic novel. Snyder's visual style is well suited to Watchmen, and he clearly loves the source material. The exposition gets a bit dry, and the performances are mixed, although Haley unleashes an uncompromising Rorschach that captures the character's unconventional charisma. The soundtrack was distracting, with a number of poorly chosen pieces, and where the fuck were the hoverbikes? Ultimately, the films imperfections do not make it unsatisfying.
