Storyline

This film charts the rise and fall of Yuri Orlov, from his early days in the early 1980s in Little Odessa, selling guns to mobsters in his local neighbourhood, through to his ascension through the decade of excess and indulgence into the early 90s, where he forms a business partnership with an African warlord and his psychotic son. The film also charts his relationship through the years with his younger brother, his marriage to a famous model, his relentless pursuit by a determined federal agent and his inner demons that sway between his drive for success and the immorality of what he does.

this is why movies are considered a form of art
Nicolas Cage (Yuri Orlov) is the greatest arms dealer the world has ever seen. That enough should make you watch it, but the power and emotion of the movie, combined with amazing acting, the incredible story the movie depicts and the intelligence of the people that wrote it, will make you love it.

Andrew Niccol (the director) has not only done a wonderful job while filming it, he also created a legend through the movie, a movie that can only be compared to great art.

This isn't a great movie, but it's exactly what I wanted to watch at the moment: something polished and entertaining that doesn't ask you to think too much. Oh, there were some bits that made me roll my eyes: the informative, ironic and completely predictable on-screen text just before the ending credits roll, "Cocaine" playing over a cocaine scene (there ought to be a law), wholly gratuitous T&A. But still, it held my attention, had a few funny lines, and never really irritated me.

Stain

They had to go to European sources of funding to produce this one because no U.S. studio would touch it. No wonder: this is so tragic and darkly comic that it's one of my favorite movies of the decade. One of the finest entries in the emergent "It's Really Really Really Fucked Up In Africa" genre

thaklos

Solid character work by Cage, who brings a morally ambiguous character to life with panache. I question whether the issue being highlighted is as significant as the movie implies, but perhaps I am just being naive? Regardless, an entertaining film that pans wide to look at how one person effects the world in a negative way.

Striker

This movie was good enough to watch, but it was no perfection. Interesting plot and good acting by Cage. It was something to watch and stay happy
