This film is too busy introducing extraneous characters to leverage the exceptional talent that Downey Jr. displayed during the first film. The plot is extremely busy, and doesn't have a good sense of place, which muted the periodic revelations. The action is also poorly distributed, and the character development scenes are trying to accomplish too many things with too many characters. I don't think the franchise is dead, but it definitely needs to regroup after this film.

Okay, so listen. I saw the trailer and had high expectations. I saw reviews and had low expectations. I saw the movie which hit somewhere down the middle. If you look at it in its broader context, Iron Man 2 is still in the top tier of superhero movies. I liked the public vs private debate that was going on in the movie, I liked the humour, and let's face it, the villain was better than in the first one. That being said, nothing beats the character growth that went on in Iron Man 1.

Much worse than the first one. Terrible writing. Decent performances. Still watchable and amusing.

The film started with great momentum that got lost along the way with trivial subplots. Still I enjoyed it more than the first one which totally lost me on the last quarter. Downey is charming whenever he isn't in the suit. Maybe they'll nail it on the third one. Nevertheless Iron Man franchise offers a bit different flavor then the ongoing superhero daze.
